How recipe photo upload works

1. Take a clear photo. Flatten the card on a table with good lighting. Printed, typed, and cursive handwritten cards all work — mixed notes on the same card are fine.
2. Upload in Recipe & Memory Book. Tap Add from recipe photo in the app. We read the legible text and fill in title, ingredients, and steps.
3. Review and save. Check the transcribed fields, add a memory story about who passed down the dish, and invite your household.

Processing usually takes a few seconds. You stay in control — review every field before saving.

What recipe cards work best

• Printed recipe box cards, photocopies, and typed printouts
• Cursive handwriting on index cards and notebook pages
• Mixed typed and handwritten notes on the same card

Tip: Good lighting and a flat photo help. You don't need to scan the whole recipe box at once — start with one card.

Secretary shorthand is not supported yet — type those recipes manually.

Save the card before the story fades

Recipe cards live in drawers, photo albums, and basements — one flood, fire, or move and the handwriting is gone. A photo preserves the original card image even when you edit the typed fields.

Start with one recipe while the story is still fresh. Who taught you, when you make it, and why it matters — that's harder to recover than ingredients.

Your photos, your library

Your recipe photos and transcribed text stay in your household library. We use AI (Grok) to read legible text from your upload — you review and save. We don't guarantee 100% accuracy on faded or illegible handwriting.

Can I type manually instead of uploading a photo?

Absolutely. Photo upload is optional — type or paste ingredients and steps whenever you prefer. Many families photograph the card for preservation and edit fields at their own pace.
